"Name: Daly Mine, Alternative Name: Lyndhurst? "
"Location: 1 3/4 miles south east from Daly Bore."

"History: The mine was opened up in 1862 and from 1866 to 1868 it was one of the holdings of the Daly-Stanley Mining Company. In subsequent years it changed hands a number of times. Most of the ore produced was extracted between 1908 and 1911 by the Lyndhurst (S.A.) Copper Company, and during this period, tributors dressed ore ranging up to 22% copper. In 1912, the company merged with Union Consolidated Copper Mines and the mine became one of a group operated by Union Consolidated Copper Mines (1911) Ltd. which closed down later in the same year owing to lack of capital. Between 1914 and 1918 the Flinders Copper Company installed a leaching and electrolytic plant and produced a small tonnage of copper cement in addition to parcels of carbonate ore. In 1943, two boreholes were drilled by the Broken Hill Associated Smelters Pty. Ltd. in order to explore the primary sulphide zone.
The mine is now part of MAC. 5171 (MAR. 571) of about 38 acres, pegged by Kennecott Exploration- (Aust.) Pty. Ltd. on October 9th, 1967."

Sir Dominick Daly

The Daly Mine, the Sir Dominick Mine, and the nearby Daly Bore were all named after Sir Dominick Daly – the former governor of South Australia (1862 - 1868) - He also served as governor of Prince Edward Island Canada (1854 - 1859).
Born on 11 August 1798 at Ardfry, Ireland; Died 19 February 1868, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.
His nephew (and namesake) Dominick Daly became a government surveyor for the state of South Australia, with G. G. McLachlan's No. 6 Party with Goyder's Expedition of 1869.

Note: There is also "Conichalcite cave" near Daly Mine, Daly Gorge (https://www.mindat.org/photo-1138815.html).

Peter Elliott (SA Museum) :
"In the northern Arkaroola region there is a series of mines along Daly Gorge - the Daly, Jubilee, Old Noll and Sir Dominic mines. I have collected at all of these and the secondary minerals in all of them include the arsenates agardite, conichalcite, cornwallite and cornubite.“









It is believed people often while looking for the Sir Dominick Mine, come across the Daly first without realising that there are in fact two mines in close proximity. It is interesting to note that there is quite a marked difference in the matrix and geology of the two mines. Even noted by H.Y.L. Brown in 'The Record of Mines of South Australia - 1908'
To add to the confusion there is only ¾ mile or 1.2km (1.7km by track) between these mines and the official northern boundary of Sir Dominick is the South boundary of Daly.

(The Sir Dominick mine is located by following the track past the Daly mine and continuing along the creek another 1.7km, the last 500 metres is cut into the side of the hill and is not recommended due to steep washouts)

Small, but very nice azurite crystals can be found at this mine.
