Named for the Muonionalusta meteorite, on which it was discovered.
Meteoritic corrosion crust mineral. Chemically somewhat similar to droninoite and nickelbischofite. Also compare akaganeite, gillardite, and paratacamite-(Ni).
Association include amorphous Fe-Ni oxyhydroxides.
Isostructural with synthetic Ni3(OH)3.9Cl2.1·4H2O and Mg3(OH)4Cl2·4H2O.
