For French clay mineralogist Gilles Serge Odin (May 31, 1942 in Arcis sur Aube, France - ?), University P. and M. Curie, Paris, France. He did the initial work on this mineral.
Kaolinite-Serpentine Group.

Note: odinite can also refer to a basaltic dyke rock with primarily anorthite (labradorite) and some augite in a groundmass of fine grained hornblende and minor quartz.
