A former Pb-Ag-Cu-Au-Zn mine complex, comprised of 11 mines in all, located in secs. 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 22, 23 & 27, T20N, R8E, SBM, N of Upper Noonday Camp, on Bureau of Land Management administered wilderness land (South Nopah Range Wilderness). Additional names which apply to this locality include: Gunsight - 0060270146; Noonday - 0060270147; Orofino - 0060270200; Mabel; Rainbow; Alexander; Columbia No. 2 - 0060270133; War Eagle - 0060270199; Apex Consolidated Gp. - 0060270201. The mine(s) closed in March, 1953. Exploration failed to develop further high-grade reserves. The Noonday, Gunsight and Grant Mines have individual reports.

Mineralization is hosted in limestone/dolomite. Ore occurs in replacement and fissure veins, most occur along a steeply-dipping fault which strikes NW. Local rocks include Precambrian rocks, undivided, unit 1 (Death Valley) and/or Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.

Workings include surface and underground openings.

Production data are found in: Tucker & Sampson (1938): 448.

Over 160,000 tons of ore were mined between 1907 and 1931. The average smelter recovery was 12% Pb. The Alexander, Grant and Noonday mines produced 40,000,000 pounds of Pb between 1914 and 1931. The War Eagle and Columbia mines produced 36,000,000 pounds of Pb, and 8,000,000 pounds of Zn during the period 1942-1948. Since 1949, the group produced over 29,000,000 pounds of Pb and 8,000,000 pounds of Zn. In recent years, the average yield has been 8.8% Pb, 6% Zn, and 4 ounces Ag/ton. Approximately 1/3 of the ore recently has been shipping grade, averaging 24% Pb, 4.9% Zn, and 10.5 ounces Ag and 0.16 ounces Au/ton.

A widespread group of Ag-Pb mines located in secs. 9, 10, 14-16, 22-23 and 27, T20N, R8E, SBM. The group is comprised of the Alexander, Apex Construction, Black Prince, Columbia No. 2, Grant, Gunsight, Mabel, Noonday, Oro Fino, Rainbow and War Eagle Mines. The group is spread out over the southern Nopah Range (on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land [South Nopah Range Wildrness]);

Production statistics: OVER 160,000 TONS OF ORE BETWEEN 1907 - 1931 , AVG. SMELTER RECOVER 12 % PB. THE ALEXANDER, GRANT, AND NOONDAY PRODUCED 40,000,000 LBS. OF PB. BETWEEN 1914 - 1931 WAR EAGLE & COLOMBIA PRODUCED 36,000,000 LBS. OF PB, AND 8,000,000 LBS. ZN FROM 1942 - 1948 . SINCE 1949 , GROUP HAS PRODUCED OVER 29,000,000 LBS. PB AND 8,000,000 LBS. ZN. RECENT YEARS, AVG. 8.8 % PB, 6 % ZN AND 4 OZ. AG/TON. APPROXIMATELY 1/3 OF ORE RECENTLY HAS BEEN OF SHIPPING GRADE, AVG. 24 % PB, 4.9 % ZN, 10.5 OZ AG AND .16 OZ AU PER TON.
