Name(s) in local language(s):
Chiampernotto, Val d'Ala, Valli di Lanzo, Torino, Piemonte, Italia
This locality is located in Ala Valley, but included in the municipality of Ceres.
Minerals are found in two different formation environments: rodingite dykes and Alpine metamorphic veins in serpentinite.
Three main mineralizations have been evidenced in rodingites:
- the clinozoisite historical site (see coordinates), located along the road less than 100 m upwards of Chiampernotto village. Pink clinozisite, epidote, diopside, and other minerals from this occurrence were described by Zambonini (1919). The outcropping mineralized vein was removed from the host rock in 1965. To date the locality is exhausted.
- the albite-epidote-prehnite occurrence, located in the wood a few tens of meters upwards of the clinozoisite site (Maletto et al., 1976).
- the garnet-perovskite-titanite occurrence, located in the overhanging valley (Maletto et al., 1976). Prospecting permits for talc and asbestos covered the territory of this valley from 1949 to 1970.
Alpine metamorphic veins in serpentinite have been evidenced along the road, about 100 m downwards of the bridge on Rio del Plou streamlet, near the reservoir no. 8 of the aqueduct Pian della Mussa-Torino. The paragenesis consists of fibrous minerals, such as antigorite, brucite, brugnatellite, chrysotile, and diopside (Belluso et al., 1995).
