Baltschieder municipality corresponds to the Baltschieder valley, owing its name to the village Baltschieder, is the easternmost of the three northern side valleys near Visp. Its entrance is situated immediately north of the city of Visp. It ends at the foot of Bietschhorn Mountain (3934 m).
Its geology is dominated by Triassic dolomites and Palaeozoic crystalline rocks, constituting the southern rim of the Aar massif.
