The Grotta dell'Allume (literally "Alum Cave") doesn't exist anymore because it collapsed in the 1940s. It was located in the Faraglione Nico (see the corresponding Mindat page). (Correction May 2010 by Frank de Wit: parts of the Grotta dell'Allume are still accessible in the Faraglione Ranni hill. See also http://www.vulcanospeleology.org/sym07/ISV7x06.pdf.)

The correct type locality of magnesioaubertite (found in 1982 and described in 1988 - IMA 1982-015) is not the Grotta dell'Allume (as described in the type-description) but the Faraglione Ranni. Today it is still possible to find some rare samples of magnesioaubertite in its original type locality (Faraglione Ranni).

Panichi (1914) classified as "kalinite" a mineral appearing as an asbestous felt or a white compact furlike coating, consisting of an assembly of fibres of variable length with a slightly sericeous lustre, in association with alunogen, gypsum, salammoniac, and other sulfates. According to Campostrini et al. (2011), "kalinite" of Panichi is verisimilarly a mixture of alum-K, pickeringite, and gypsum. Panichi (1914) observed also that rare idiomorphic crystals of alum-K, appearing as small colourless or slightly pink octahedra, can occur where the rock is wet because they crystallise from solutions that naturally leached the sulfate masses. In more recent times, the presence of small octahedral crystals of alum-K has been reported by Garavelli et al. (1996) and also by Campostrini et al. (2011), mainly in association with chalcanthite and alunogen.
