REE-Nb-Ta-Zr mineralisation at the MSC formed in an alkali-silicate roof-zone within a unit known as the MSC – Altered Syenite. In the field, this unit is characterised by a suite of pegmatitic and aplitic syenite variants which cross-cut each other. The variants grade one into the other without sharp boundaries. The MSC – Altered Syenite is a roof-zone in which repeated magmatic injections (dykes, sills and inclined sheets) into a created a network of cross-cutting syenitic sheets without chilled margins.
