After J.J. Paris, proprietor of the emerald mine at Muzo, Columbia, where the species was discovered.
A group of calcium rare-earth fluoro-carbonates. "Parisite" is used for specimens with unspecified REE dominance, but parisite-(Ce) is the most common member.
May be confused with synchysite.
