The Saih Hatat area is a tectonic window that exposes basement and continental shelf units structurally underlying the Semail ophiolite. Saih Hatat is subdivided into three thrust-bounded tectonometamorphic regions each characterized by a set of lithotectonic units metamorphosed under different P–T conditions.

As-Sifah consists of calcareous schists interbedded with quartz mica schists, mafic metavolcanics and minor lenses of Fe-rich metapelites, all of Permian protoliths. These units were subjected to high P–T metamorphism characteristic of the blueschist and eclogite facies, either before or during the emplacement of the ophiolite.

The area around As Sifah contains three metamorphic zones, Zone A is characterized by crossite epidote schists interlayered with greenschists; zone B by garnet glaucophane schists (garnet blueschists); and zone C by eclogites interlayered with garnet blueschists and epidote amphibolites.

The mineralogy listed is from two outcrops in zone C in mafic rocks a few km inland from As-Sifah.

The amphibole identifications are based on electron microprobe analyses by El-Shazly et al. (1997) that are normalized and named in accordance with the 2012 amphibole nomenclature, using the procedures described in Locock (2014). Due to nomenclature changes, the amphibole names may differ from the originally published names.
