Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

The Zircon showing exposes white granite, granite pegmatite, and crystalline limestone.

The following minerals occur at the Zircon showing: zircon, thorite, allanite, pyroxene, titanite, scapolite, tourmaline, calcite, hematite, chlorite, goethite, graphite, and serpentine occur in the pegmatite. The crystalline limestone which was intruded by the pegmatite contains vesuvianite, fluorite, pyroxene, plagioclase and k-feldspar, smoky quartz, pyrite, goethite, pyrrhotite, and molybdenite.

The showings were explored for radioactive minerals by several open cuts from 1954-1956. The work was conducted by Saranac Uranium Mines Limited. At the Zircon showing, granite and granite pegmatite are exposed by a 46-m long open-cut and by a trench 30 m to the south. A skarn in crystalline limestone is exposed by two trenches 90 m north of the open-cut.

The article by Nasdala et al. gives detailed analyses of these complex zoned and altered zircons with chemistry and backscatter images.
