The Ratsstein quarry ('Ratssteinbruch') near Dölzschen is a 2.1 hectare geological natural monument in the Plauensche Grund in the south of the Saxon state capital Dresden.
The quarry is a former monzonite quarry.
In Plauenschen Grund, in the southwest of Dresden, the monzonite (formerly referred to as "Syenite") was mined for gravel production until the 1950s. A number of abandoned quarries on the road to Freital still bear witness to this today. One of the most important was the quarry beneath the Begerburg, opened in 1856 by the Dölzschen landowner Otto Beger. Other quarries were owned by the “United Steinbruch im Plauenschen Grund AG”, founded in 1898, as well as private landowners in the neighboring communities. The largest and most famous among them is the Forsthausbruch, which was owned by the Dresden City Council from 1872 and was therefore called the Ratssteinbruch. This was the last of the 12 quarries in the area that remained in operation until 1961. This quarry is known to collectors for a variety of interesting minerals.
The historical course of the demolition edge into the Plauensche Grund is still known and visible today; it originally ended directly on the orographically left bank of the Weißeritz between the bridge in Altplauen and the Hegereiter Bridge, which still exists as a bank edge today.
The quarry is also known for a wide range of fossils.
