According to the Mineralienatlas website (see link below) the discovery area (several small pits) is approximately 8 km SW of Tangdan and 3 km S of Lanniping at an altitude of between 3,000 and 3,500 m.
Between 1960 and 2000, 480,000 tonnes of copper were produced here, with the concentrates also containing silver and gold.
Veszelyite, dongchuanite, cuprodongchuanite etc. were found in sandstone fractures around Cu ore veins and clearly of supergene origin.
The origin Cu-Pb-Zn minerals here are mainly galena, covellite, and tetrahedrite group minerals.
This ore field, one of China’s most significant copper deposits, has been crucial for copper production and coin minting since the Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE). Its significance was particularly notable during the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912 CE). The area is characterized by sedimentary rock-hosted, strata-bound copper deposits, with predominantly disseminated and veinlet copper sulphides.
