The vanadium, lead, and zinc mines of the Santa Marta de los Barros mining district were an important source of vanadium supply at the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, and their lead, silver, and zinc ores were subsequently exploited until the definitive closure of the district in 1929.

The main mines of the Santa Marta mining district are located in two different places in the northeast area of the town and are concentrated in two adjacent geographical areas: Los Llanos and Las Colmenitas (these names do not correspond to mine names but to geographical areas).

In the Los Llanos area are located the La Constante and Maria Luisa mines, as well as the main shaft of the Reserva mine.

The area of Las Colmenitas, north of Los Llanos, is where the rest of the works of the Reserva mine are located (shafts #2 to #6).

Minerals from the Reserva mine: adamite, calderónite, cerussite, descloizite, devilline, goethite, hemimorphite, jarosite, linarite, mimetite, osarizawaite, smithsonite, vanadinite.
