Filone pegmatitico di Sommafiume (Alpe Sommafiume; Miniera Marategno), Dervio, Provincia di Lecco, Lombardia, Italia
Abandoned pegmatite quarry (since more than 60 years), also known as Marategno Mine. The mine gallery is located at 982 m a.s.l.
Sommafiume dyke is one of the big 10 dykes of the Piona pegmatite swarm, which is embedded into the high-grade metapelites (sillimanite-, garnet-bearing gneiss) of the Dervio-Olgiasca Zone (DOZ). The DOZ, which belongs to the crystalline basement of the Central Southern Alps, represents a segment of upper to middle continental crust, originated after Variscan intermediate pressure amphibolite facies metamorphism and exumated during the Alpine orogenesis (di Paola & Spalla, 2000). The Sommafiume pegmatite shows features and paragenesis similar to the ones observed at Olgiasca-Malpensata.
Cartography: IGM F 17 II N E
To get to the mine, take the road from Dervio to Sueglio, then for Sommafiume, then the path slightly leading down to a wide hairpin turn where you find the mine.
