Tysvær Municipality covers a land area of 425 km2. The landscape is dominated by low hills (max altitude ~600m) crosscut by fjords in the NS and SSW/ENE direction. The fjords follow the regional fault systems.

The rocks are dominated by Sweco-Norwegian (1000MA+) gneisses with patches of metamorphic (chloritoid to sillimanite) supracrustal rocks of the same age. In addition, a band of Caledonian (ca 400MA) phyllites and mica schists can be found in the Southern and Eastern parts of the municipality.
