Modern sources spell it Jaurdi. Historic sources mainly spell it Jourdie, and occasionally Jaurdi.
Dunnsville is approximately 50- kilometres north-west of Coolgardie at the end of the Jaurdi Hills Road. Gold was discovered here mid 1894 by John Dunn, who arrived in Coolgardie in August 1894 with two camel loads of specimens. It immediately set off a gold rush from Coolgardie. The scene soon after was described as a human anthill of activity.
Dunn had pegged the site for his syndicate, and called the deposit the Wealth of Nations, which was to become the most significant mine at the location. It was common practice at the time to allow dryblowers access to the lease within 20 feet of the reef. Dunn challenged Tom Love who within the first couple of days found a 76 oz nugget at 100 feet from the reef. It was only the intervention of explorer David Lindsay, who stopped Dunn from being lynched. Love later that day on the same lease found a 196 oz nugget the size of a dinner plate.
Jaurdi Hills are 10 kilometres further south-east along the Jaurdi Hills Road. The hills themselves are a collection of jumbled low hills, east of the road. Who discovered gold here is unclear, but appears to be later, from around 1897. The Pride of Jaurdi (Jourdie) was the most significant mine on the field, found bordering the east side of the road. Some minor historic mines are found to the east, in the western side of the hills. Two small abandoned open pits, Black Cat North, and 1 kilometre to the north, Panther, border the west side of the road, and were developed briefly in 2001.
The Newhaven group of mines, about 10 kilometres east of Dunnsville are also included under this heading.
