Köppen climate type:
Granite pegmatite district, mined for centuries for its feldspar for the local ceramic industry. Crystal pockets have been almost completely worked out by local mineral collectors, and many of the dumps are overgrown with forest, so not much of collector interest is left to find here, although alluvial topaz crystals are still dug from stream sands.
Tanakamiyama (田上山) is a general term for a group of mountains with an altitude of 400 to 600 meters that stretch from the Tanakami district to the Oishi district in the southern part of Otsu City , Shiga Prefecture. It forms part of the Konan Alps located in the southern part of Lake Biwa .
The main peak is Mount Tanakami, and the other peaks include Mount Sasama and Mount Kunimi. The area is mostly made up of granite. Mount Tanakami has an elevation of 599.7 meters . The area is rich in quartz and topaz.
Tanakami-yama has been revered as a sacred mountain since ancient times, and near the summit is the Fudo-ji Temple, founded by Enchin. The main approach to the mountain is along the Tenjin River from Tagami Park in Eda 3-chome, Otsu City. The Otodo River flows at the northern foot of the mountain, and the Shigaraki River flows at the western foot.
