The Onganja mine in Helen Farm 235 was a copper mine situated and exploiting the Voitskopf vein, which is continous with the Maygift vein straddling the border between Helen 235 and Klein Onganja 148 farms. The majority of cuprite and native copper specimens originate from this Voitskopf-Maygift vein system.
The mine has changed ownership and names (Emke, Emka, Otjisongati) several times during the past.
The vein complex consists of central calcite-dominant and peripheral quartz-dominant veins with pyrite-magnetite-chalcopyrite-apatite-molybdenite-native gold ore mineralogy. Adjacent alteration comprises proximal albite (Ab >97) and early/distal scapolite (Me 41 to 51) − biotite zones (Moore, 2010).
Other veins in the immediate vicinity are Omahanga, Kronriff, Feldspatriff, Stanley, Kriegsfeldgang and several others known alphabetically as A, B, E, F, G, H, L, N. The Onganja mining area umbrella term comprises all those veins.
