Mina Generala -Cerro de las Cogullas (La Cogolla), Losacio, Zamora
Lead and antimony mine
The Generala Mine is situated in the place of " La Cogolla " also known as Hill " Las Cogullas " or Cogollas 1.6 km NE of the town of Losacio .
It is in an ancient mine primarily of Antimony was worked in the mid- nineteenth century with a major production exploited several veins through galleries and tunnels inclined .
In the upper part of the ore deposit was mainly antimony oxides product of alteration of primary minerals ( Stibnite ) as multicolored masses formed mostly by Stibiconite .
These mines are of particular importance as a classical field worldwide for being the first where you described it correctly Stibiconite ( Escosura 1844 ) appearing as classic locality for this mineral in all the books of mineralogy .
From detailed analysis of alteration minerals from this locality were determined several rare Arsenates and Phosphates ( Hinsdalite - Philipsbornite - Segnitite ) by Dr. Joan Vinyals earlier this century.
