Köppen climate type:
Epithermal copper-gold deposit.
The Jintonghu deposit is distributed in the northeast of the Zijinshan ore district and holds inferred resources of 0.7 Mt Cu at an average grade of 0.4 % and 0.04 Mt Mo at an average grade of 0.042 %. The Jintonghu Cu-Mo deposit is spatially related to multiple Cretaceous intrusion phases, including the Sifang granodiorite, granodiorite porphyry, and porphyritic granodiorite, along with diorite porphyry, dacite porphyry, and quartz syenite porphyry dykes.
Five well-defined alteration zones are determined by petrographic observations, vein crosscutting relationships, and mineral assemblages. A potassic alteration zone is observed at deeper levels (>1000 m below surface) within the granodiorite porphyry. Above it, chlorite-sericite alteration is prevalent in the granodiorite porphyry, overprinting the potassic alteration zone, and spatially correlates with Cu-Mo mineralization. This alteration is also present in the porphyritic granodiorite, albeit less intensely. Sericite and argillic alterations affect the Sifang granodiorite, with localized advanced argillic alteration in the uppermost part.
Copper and molybdenum mineralization is predominantly hosted in the granodiorite porphyry, with minor mineralization in the Sifang granodiorite. The Cu-Mo orebody extends from approximately − 1100 to − 400 m beneath the surface, with a saddle-like shape.
