Porphyry molybdenum deposit. The Yuchiling Mo deposit represents a unique style of porphyry Mo system formed in a post-collision setting, and associated with F-rich, high-K calc-alkaline intrusions, which differ from convergent margin-associated porphyry Mo deposits.
The Yuchiling deposit is hosted in the Cretaceous Heyu composite granitic pluton, which outcrops over an area of 784 km2. The main orebody has a thick tabular shape. It is about 1000 m long, 850 m wide and 300 m thick. Its east boundary is open and as yet unexplored. Generally, the ore grade increases from the surface downward. Furthermore, high-grade ores tend to form at the intersections of the E–W- and NNE-trending faults. Zhou (2010) recognizes four different Mo mineralization styles: 1) veinlets and stockworks in altered granites (the main ore type), 2) Mo mineralization in quartz veins and altered rocks in fault structures (usually high grade), 3) disseminated Mo mineralization in breccias and 4) disseminated Mo mineralization in fractured granites, typically along contact zones of the breccia pipes with granites. The molybdenite– quartz veins are usually 2–6 mm wide.
