The geology of the area is dominated by Härnö group metagreywackes and intercalated mafic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks. Local interbeds of pyrite- and/or pyrrhotite-bearing metapelite and graphite schist also occur in the package. The metasupracrustal rocks are intruded by late-orogenic granites, pegmatitic granites, and pegmatites belonging to the GrP suite. Major deformation zones in the area have mainly WNW-ESE orientations with subordinate deformation zones orientated NW to NE. Locally, these fault zones flank the margins of larger granite bodies. Folding patterns evident on regional magnetic anomaly maps indicate variable N- to NE- and WNW- to NW-oriented and typically steeply plunging folds affect the metasupracrustal rocks. Metamorphic grade is estimated to have reached upper amphibolite to granulite facies based on the local occurrence of paragneiss and migmatite, as elsewhere in the Bothnian Basin.
