Red Dog deposit

An open pit Zn-Pb-Ag occurrence/mine located 200 km north of the Arctic Circle near Kotzebue. Owned by Cominco Alaska, Inc. (joint venture with Cominco American, Inc. & NANA Regional Corp.).

Shale-hosted Zn-Pb-Ag deposit. Red Dog's sulphide ore zones lie in sedimentary exhalative deposits within Mississippian to Permian black shales. They are overlain by barite-rich rock and a 20-30-m-thick cap of oxidized mineralization.

Reserves were estimated at 77 million tons of ore at 17.1% Zn, 5% Pb & 2.6 oz/ton Ag.
