Mina Nueva Virginia (Mina del Tio Jorge; Mina Virginia), Lanzuela, Teruel, Aragón, España

Small old antimony mine, also known as Mina del Tio Jorge (translatable as Uncle George Mine), located close to Royo ravine in Lanzuela. The mine has two levels, connected through a big hole, and two dumps located close to the entrances to access to each level of the mine.

Host rock is dolomite. Main minerals are semseyite and zinkenite pseudomorphs after stibnite.

It is a curious site of dyke morphology which fits in limestones of Ordovician age (Ashgill) associated with a zone of tectonic breakage (cataclasis) forming a level of Dolomite where the mineralization in the form of masses dispersed alongside veins of quartz and baryte.

The principal ore of this field are sulphosalts of lead and is formed into three phases which have been producing significant changes in paragenesis with a complicated sequence of transformations and substitutions of different mineral phases, apparently an example of metasomatism of lead of a primary antimony mineralization.

It is noteworthy the excellent samples of semseyite that has provided this small mine for sure the best in Spain.
