Uranium deposit, hosted in sandstones belonging to the lower member of the Middle Jurassic Zhiluo Formation. The orebodies are mostly located at or near the contact between gray sandstones and gray-greenish sandstones, owing their colour to the presence of Fe(2+) minerals. The greenish sandstones were reduced by natural gas and miscellaneous organic matter, covering up the lower layers and protecting uranium accumulations from destruction by infiltrating water.

The lowermost part of the formation (J2z1-1) is the main ore-bearing stratum and originated from braided river/river delta. Archean gneisses and Permian-Triassic biotite granites in the orogenic belt provide primary U source for the basin-hosted mineralization. Infiltration of surface-derived oxygenated groundwater into gray sandstone containing reducing media (such as organic matter, H2S and FeS2) had led to U mineralization since the late Jurassic. The orebody generally occurring as tabular shape is distributed in the mineralized zone sandwiched between the oxidized zone composed of red, green and yellow sandstones and the reduced zone characterized by barren gray sandstones.
