A former gold and copper mine. Comprise of underground workings, open cut, shafts and shallow pits.

A multiple vein deposit. Includes the Dapville, Gladstone and Cobar Tharsis lodes.

Note Cobar is the name of the town and the parish is also named Cobar.

The Great Cobar Mine is the site of the original copper discovery at Cobar (although there is some indication local aboriginals used the green/blue secondary copper as body paint previously). The original prospectors never made a fortune, selling their shares early. Cobar Copper Mining Company 1871-1875; Great Cobar Copper Mining Company 1876-1889, Great Cobar Mining Syndicate 1894-1906, Great Cobar Ltd 1906-1914, receiver of the aforementioned company 1915-1919. Copper mineralisation was discovered at Cobar by Charles Campbell, Thomas Hartman, and George Gibb while they were sinking water tanks. With backing from Bourke businessman, Joseph Becker, they registered the lease in 1870. The first batch came in at 33% copper. In 1876, multiple mines were amalgamated to form the Great Cobar Copper Mine. In March 1920 a fire broke out underground which burned for sixteen years. This effectively ended mining at the site for the next thirty years. Overcapitalisation, poor ore grades, and low copper prices may have also played a part.
