Concesión San José (Mina Los Sejas; Mina El Negre), Puerto de Eslida, Chóvar, provincia de Castellón, Comunidad Valenciana, España
Ancient cobalt mining area located near "Puerto de Eslida" eastward. The mines operated in the area since the mid-eighteenth century, although at present the works are abandoned. The ore exploited was asbolane, scraping blackish mineral crusts to concentrate it. The material was used as a blue dye in the nearby ceramic industries. There are no remains of primary cobalt sulfides, nor of erythrite.
Outcrops are hosted in ortho-quartzite levels of Triassic age, corresponding to the Buntsandstein facies.
Mine workings are located mainly in two areas:
- "Los Sejas" Mining Area: Located in the "Solana de la Majadica", easily accessible by a path from "Puerto de Eslida", 800 m eastward.
- "El Negre" Mining Area: Located under "Puerto de Eslida", along the ravine leading down to Eslida, approximately 150 vertical meters down. Access is difficult, without a marked path.
Coordinates are given for "Los Sejas" Mining Area.
