Name:
The name hexathioplumbite is based on this being a hexagonal thiosulfate of lead (latin plumbum). It is dimorphous with cubothioplumbite, a cubic thiosulfate of lead.

Also compare redmondite and hydroredmondite - another Pb thiosulfate minerals from the same site.

Co-described with the other polymorph - cubothioplumbite.

Structure of both is based on cubane-like [Pb4(OH)4]4+ units.
