Name:
The mineral is named after Īraklīs Katsaros (ΗΡΑΚΛΗΣ ΚΑΤΣΑΡΟΣ) of Lavrion (born December 22nd, 1969) who has led as guide a large number of scientific archeological and mineralogical sampling tours through the ancient mining system of Lavrion. His help enabled more than 100 publications in the field of archeology/mining history and mineralogy/geology. His assistance is further acknowledged in dozens of peer-reviewed scientific papers.
The Zn analogue of humboldtine, glushinskite, lindbergite, and andreybulakhite.

Crystalstructuredetails:
* chains comprising isolated ZnO6 octahedra alternately linked along [010] via oxalate anions
* the chains are interconnected exclusively via hydrogen bonds

Type Occurrence of KatsarositeHide

General Appearance of Type Material:
as crystal aggregates, mostly fine-granular to earthy; individual crystals usually rounded, 30 µm in diameter on average; they are sometimes prismatic along [001] or platy, with indistinct {100}, {001}, {110}, and {101} forms; the mineral occurs directly on sphalerite or is found embedded in jarosite and/or hydrozincite; it is often "intimately intergrown with gypsum and overgrown by goslarite and/or epsomite"
