The mineral is named after Professor Paulo Roberto Gomes Brandão (born January 26, 1944), Department of Mining Engineering, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). He specialises in the mineralogical characterisation of ores and in the development of improved ore-concentration techniques.
