Named by C. Rao, F. Hatert, R.C. Wang, X.P. Gu, F. Dal Bo, and C.W. Dong in 2015 for the Minjiang River, located near the Nanping pegmatite type locality.
Chemically related to loomisite, that may be treated as its monohydrate counterpart. Both are beryllophosphates. Topologically similar to the structure of dmisteinbergite. The natural analogue of synthetic BaBe2(PO4)2. Not a true analogue but chemical analogue of strontiohurlbutite.
