Name:
Originally called simply rhabdophane, from the Greek, rhabdos, a rod, plus phainesthai, to appear, in allusion to the bands characteristically exhibited in its spectrum. In 1966 the suffix/modifier was added to differentiate it from cerium dominant rhabdophane. The modifier "-(Nd)" indicates the predominance of Nd over other REE in this species.
