Name(s) in local language(s):
(Quadeville West Mine; Wal-Gem West Quarry)
A pit in a granite pegmatite located northwest of Quadeville. The occurrence is made up of two mines: Beryl Pit (Quadeville East Mine/Beryl Pit), and the Quadeville West Mine (Rose Quartz Quarry).
The extent of the Quadeville Rose Quartz pegmatite is unknown, but it is estimated to be 200 m long and 45 m wide. It is well-zoned, with three recognizable units: (1) a wall zone containing microcline, albite, and quartz, (2) an intermediate zone of microcline and quartz, and (3) a quartz core, which ranges in colour from colourless-white to smoky to rose-coloured.
The Rose Quartz Quarry was originally opened up for beryl by Renfrew Minerals Limited in 1935, but results proved to be disappointing. The company, however, operated the deposit for feldspar and extracted 612 t in a two-year period. From 1948 until 1950, Canadian Beryllium Mines & Alloys Limited worked the deposit for beryl and feldspar.
In the early 1970s, the mine was owned by McCoy, the owner of a rock shop just west of Quadeville.
Rose Quartz is now being extracted. The openings, extending from west to east, consist of a T shaped cut in which rose quartz is exposed, an open cut 40 m by 24 m, and an open cut 6 m by 23 m, from which beryl is obtained.
The Rose Quartz Quarry used to be a fee for collecting site, but can only be visited by appointment.
The Rose Quartz Quarry has recently switched owners and as of now, access seems to be on an infrequent, arranged basis.
