Note:
Not to be confused with West Wheal Kitty, which also was formerly worked under the name Wheal Rock. The latter mine, not Tywarnhayle Mine, is the type locality of stannite.
The engine house dominates the skyline on top of the steep spoil heaps that tumble down to the Redruth Road though on reaching the spot it is quite clear the house is built on a small remnant of exposed rock. The building has been preserved and is a fabulous example of the Cornish engine house. Several other ruined buildings and chimneys are clustered at the inland end of the hillside.
Mineral samples are plentiful within the dumps, mostly pyrite or chalcopyrite in quartz with other minerals occurring infrequently. (Aug. 2016)
