Worked on in the early 1800's, this mine was amalgamated in the 1820's with Wheal Gertrude, Wheal Tallack, Great Towan Consols, Wheal Duchy, Wheal Turton and South Towan. Hamilton Jenkin does not describe Wheal Charles as part of Tywarnhayle mine, despite its close proximity at the bottom of the valley.
Two shafts are present on a large levelled area of dumps rising up alongside the stream (which runs from nearby Wheal Ellen). One of these shaft's collars seems in unstable condition, and is currently (2025) cordoned off for safety. Two more shafts are higher up the steep valley, opposite Tywarnhayle.
