Located near Ngaoundéré (the capital of the Adamaoua Region).

Lacustrine late Tertiary to Quaternary sedimentary (sands and clays) basin in a depression of a basaltic plateau.

Black varved argillites that contained large vivianite crystals are essentially composed of kaolinite, siderite, quartz, organic matter, fluorapatite, and crandallite.

The sand lenses that contain the mantienneite are composed of quartz, feldspars, volcanic glass, and chrome spinel in a mantienneite, kaolinite, chlorite-montmorillonite mixed-layer and siderite cement.

Worldwide unique occurrence for the size of vivianite crystals abundant in black argillites (http://www.musee.ensmp.fr/gm/60.html). Some of these vivianite crystal aggregates were over 2 metres in diameter with individual crystals to 1.35 metres.

The vivianite locality is essentially swampland.
