Parrsboro is a community located in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada.

A regional service centre for southern Cumberland County, the community is also known for its port on the Minas Basin, the Ship's Company Theatre productions, and the Fundy Geological Museum.

A former shipbuilding community known for being the center of 'rockhounding' in Nova Scotia. It is home to the Fundy Geological Museum and the annual Nova Scotia Gem & Mineral Show and Sale (formerly the Rockhound Roundup). The show regularly attracts collectors and dealers from as far as Ontario and New England every August.

It is also the hometown of Eldon George (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eldon_George), who ran the Parrsboro Rock and Mineral Shop and Museum in the town for decades. He was an avid field collector and made many important minerals and especially fossil discoveries.

Formula: SiO2
Quartz var. Amethyst
Formula: SiO2
Colour: Purple
Description: From Jackson and Alger: "...the substance for which this island more than any other spot in the country has been celebrated, and in search of which it is visited by almost every traveller, is amethyst, in crystals of great beauty and brilliancy. They seem first to have drawn attention of De Monts, one of the earliest French emigrants to this country, during the reign of Henry IV. It is said he was so struck with their appearance, that he took several specimens with him to Paris, where he had them appropriately set as jewels, and presented them to the King and Queen as tokens of his loyal attachment. They often form geodes in the amygdaloid, and are externally encrusted with chalcedony and cacholong that alternate with each other."
Quartz var. Chalcedony
Formula: SiO2
Stilbite-Ca
Formula: NaCa4(Si27Al9)O72 · 28H2O
'Stilbite Subgroup'
Formula: M6-7[Al8-9Si27-28O72] · nH2O
Habit: Druses, fans, sheaves.
Colour: Orange, white, cream, red.
Stilpnomelane
Formula: (K,Ca,Na)(Fe,Mg,Al)8(Si,Al)12(O,OH)36 · nH2O
Description: "Has been observed, in the form of circularly-radiated plumose groupings, of a light to dark-yellow green-gray colour and a vitreous to pearly lustre, as a thin coating on the fissure surfaces of a grayish-white chalcedony, from the west side of Partridge Island, Cumberland County, in the province of Nova Scotia. The mineral which was collected by Mr. C. W. Willimont in 1892 was identified by Mr. R. A. A. Johnston, but the matter was not, at the time, considered of sufficient importance to call for any special mention."
