Type:
Köppen climate type:
Not an island, but a peninsula. Access to the beach is dictated by the tides - there are long sections of where the the water rises to shear cliffs and extreme caution should be used. Nonetheless, easy access has meant it has been heavy collected for nearly 200 years. In the early 1800s it was celebrated for amethyst finds.
Minerals are found in veins and pockets in basalt. Some of the stilbite and chabazite is very brightly colored (orange) and similar in appearance to material from Wasson's Bluff.

| ⓘ Quartz Formula: SiO2 |
| ⓘ Quartz var. Agate Formula: SiO2 |
| ⓘ Quartz var. Amethyst Formula: SiO2 Colour: Purple Description: From Jackson and Alger:
"...the substance for which this island more than any other spot in the country has been celebrated, and in search of which it is visited by almost every traveller, is amethyst, in crystals of great beauty and brilliancy. They seem first to have drawn attention of De Monts, one of the earliest French emigrants to this country, during the reign of Henry IV. It is said he was so struck with their appearance, that he took several specimens with him to Paris, where he had them appropriately set as jewels, and presented them to the King and Queen as tokens of his loyal attachment. They often form geodes in the amygdaloid, and are externally encrusted with chalcedony and cacholong that alternate with each other." |
| ⓘ Quartz var. Chalcedony Formula: SiO2 |
| ⓘ Stilbite-Ca Formula: NaCa4(Si27Al9)O72 · 28H2O |
| ⓘ 'Stilbite Subgroup' Formula: M6-7[Al8-9Si27-28O72] · nH2O Habit: Druses, fans, sheaves. Colour: Orange, white, cream, red. |
| ⓘ Stilpnomelane Formula: (K,Ca,Na)(Fe,Mg,Al)8(Si,Al)12(O,OH)36 · nH2O Description: "Has been observed, in the form of circularly-radiated plumose groupings, of a light to dark-yellow green-gray colour and a vitreous to pearly lustre, as a thin coating on the fissure surfaces of a grayish-white chalcedony, from the west side of Partridge Island, Cumberland County, in the province of Nova Scotia. The mineral which was collected by Mr. C. W. Willimont in 1892 was identified by Mr. R. A. A. Johnston, but the matter was not, at the time, considered of sufficient importance to call for any special mention." |
