Kupreanof Island is an island in the Alexander Archipelago in southeastern Alaska. Measuring about 84 km (52 miles) long and 32 km (20 miles) wide, it has a total land area of 2,802.84 km² (1,082.18 square miles), ranking as the 13th largest island in the United States and the 170th largest worldwide. On its southeastern side, the Lindenberg Peninsula is considered part of the island, though it is separated from the main landmass by a narrow inlet known as Duncan Canal.

The island was first mapped between 1793 and 1794 by James Johnstone and Joseph Whidbey during George Vancouver’s expedition of 1791–1795. It was later named in honor of Vice Admiral Ivan Antonovich Kupreianov, who served as governor of the Russian American colonies from 1836 to 1840. The name appeared in 1848 on a Russian Hydrographic Department chart as “Os(trov) Kupreyanova.”

Kake, located on the island’s northwestern side, is its largest settlement. The only other settlement, Kupreanof, sits on the eastern side across the Wrangell Narrows from Petersburg on nearby Mitkof Island. The entire island falls within the Petersburg Ranger District of Tongass National Forest, and it also includes the Petersburg Creek–Duncan Salt Chuck Wilderness.
