Mina de Montalto, Covelo, Gondomar, Distrito do Porto, Portugal
In remote times, initially the Phoenicians, later and chiefly the Romans, exploited gold in this mining district. At the end of the XIX century, this belt was extensively mined for antimony; and, as a sub-product, gold contained in quartz veins.
The Montalto mine is an abandoned antimony and gold mine. It was mined after 1865 (mining concession no. 25, registration date 28-10-1865).
