The NE-trending alignment of the Şavşat, Salinbaş-Hod, and Yusufeli porphyry-epithermal camps defines the ~110-kmlong, NE-trending, S-shaped Hod gold corridor (total known mineral endowment of ~205 t Au; ~0.33 Mt Cu). This corridor mimics the surface exposures of the inverted Jurassic volcano-sedimentary basin rocks and is bound to the north by the unconformity of the post-collisional Eocene volcano-sedimentary sequence, to the west by the intruding composite Late Cretaceous to Eocene Kaçkar batholith, and to the east by the thrusted Mesozoic fore-arc volcano-sedimentary sequence. The intermediate to felsic volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks and interbedded clastic sedimentary rocks of the Late Cretaceous Eastern Pontides arc sequence (i.e., Çatak, Kızılkaya, and Sümbüllü formations) are the main hosts to economic epithermal mineralization along the Hod gold corridor including the Şavşat, the southern part of the Salinbaş-Hod (i.e., Derinköy, Hızarlı, and Hod Maden prospects and deposits), and Yusufeli camps. Mineralization in the northern part of the Salinbaş-Hod camp (i.e., Ardala and Salinbaş deposits) is also hosted by the upper Maastrichtian to Eocene (~70–41 Ma) volcanic and clastic to carbonate sedimentary units (i.e., Ağillar, Erenler, and Kabaköy formations).
Porphyry-style mineralization is predominantly located in the northern part of the corridor such as at Ardala, Berta, and Dereiçi and is hosted within intrusive rocks that include granite, granodiorite, and (quartz-)monzonite. The Ardala porphyry Cu-Au-Mo deposit is centered on a quartz-pyrite-chalcopyrite-bornite vein stockwork and quartz-sericite-pyrite over secondary potassium feldspar-biotite-magnetite alteration (66.4 Mt grading 0.44 g/t Au, 1.55 Ag, 0.17% Cu, and 0.006% Mo).
