Ores are under the ocean. Contained 18Moz of gold with a grade of 4.2g/t.

The newly discovered Haiyu Au deposit contains 562 t Au with an average grade of 4.2 g/t, but locally up to 232.2 g/t. The mine area of Haiyu deposit is covered by seawater and marine sediments, with the water depth of 8.5–20 m and sediment thickness of 35–60 m. Lithologies in the Haiyu Au deposit is dominated by the Neoarchean metamorphic rocks of the Jiaodong Group consisting mainly of biotite plagioclase gneiss with minor biotite schist and biotite granulite. These rocks were intruded by the Late Jurassic Linglong granite and Early Cretaceous Guojialing granitoids.
The Haiyu Au deposit consists of 45 orebodies, which are predominantly present as disseminated sulfides and stockwork quartz-sulfide in the intensively altered granite. They are strictly controlled by the NE-trending fault, with economic orebodies being concentrated in the gentle-dip parts of the fault (i.e., upper mineralization zone between 0 to −600 m and deeper mineralization zone below −1000 m a.b.l.) accompanied by a mineralization gap between the two zones (i.e., −600 to −1000 m a.b.l.). With a few exceptions (e.g., II-1), the orebodies mostly occur in the foot wall of the fault. The largest orebody is I-4 present in the deeper mineralization zone, which constitutes ca. 75% of total gold resources in the Haiyu deposit. It strikes 35° to NE and dips 21°–52° to SE. The orebody extends 1446 m along strike and more than 1072 m along dip, with thickness varying from 1.07 to 102 m. Four paragenetic stages are recognized at the Haiyu Au deposit. Stage I is a pre-mineralization stage featured by abundant K-feldspar associated with milky quartz and minor pyrite. Stage II is largely represented by disseminated and stockwork quartz-sericite-pyrite alteration overprinting stage I. Stage III contains abundant siderite and base metal sulfides (chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, galena, and sphalerite). Stage IV is marked by barren calcite and quartz, which indicate the end of gold mineralization at Haiyu.
