The Upper Cambrian strata consist mainly of shallow metamorphic quartz sandstone and impure limestone, whereas the Lower Ordovician strata are composed primarily of silty and siliceous slates. The Middle Devonian strata consist of coarse- to fine-grained quartz sandstone, argillaceous sandstone, calcareous sandstone, and shale. The W–Fe mineralization in the Tiemuli area was hosted by Upper Cambrian clastic and calcareous rocks. The structural framework of the area was characterized by NE-trending- and NW-trending faults. The Tiemuli porphyritic granite intruded the Upper Cambrian strata and covered approximately 0.36 km2 in the northwestern part of this deposit.
Four surface skarn scheelite-magnetite orebodies (I, II, III, and IV) and two hidden ones (V-1 and V-2) were discovered in the Tiemuli region. Orebody I was situated in the northern part of the mining area, bordering the contact zone between Cambrian sandstone and granite. It trended in the ENE and E–W directions, with a dip of 60◦–70◦ N–NW and was >70 m long and approximately 20 m wide. Orebody II was positioned within the Cambrian calcium-bearing siltstone trap body in granite, >40 m long in the NW direction and >65 m wide in the NE direction with an Fe grade of 36.24 % – 41.30 % (averaging 40.23 %). Orebody III was located within the Upper Cambrian Ca-bearing metamorphic sandstone and impure limestone in the eastern part of the area. It spanned approximately 140 m in length and 2–6 m in width and consisted of disseminated, reticulated, and massive magnetite and scheelite. The Fe grade within this orebody fluctuated from 28.00 % to 51.00 %, with an average value of 39.28 %. Orebody IV was positioned along the contact zone between Cambrian sandstone and granite in the western part of the area. It was approximately 110 m long and 16 m wide, with an Fe grade of 13.86 % – 39.14 % (averaging 27.57 %). Orebodies V-1 and V-2 were located in the southern part of the area and were detected via the exploration line No. 7. Orebody V-1 extended 175 m with a width of 2.1–15 m with an Fe grade of 9.58 % – 63.73 % (averaging 37.19 %), accompanied by economic W-Cu mineralization. Orebody V-2 extended 80–130 m in strike length; the dip length was about 160 m, and the Fe grade was 28.78 % – 36.65 % (averaging 32.28 %).
