Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

The small village of Neverford is located about 26 km south of the town of Hammerfest. The mineral deposit described is located about 4 km southwest of Neverfjord in Vesterdalen. It can easily be reached by an old mining track connecting Neverfjord with Bachkes Mine.

Four trenches are located in an impure Cu-mineralized dolomite rock. The distance between the outer trenches is about 160 m.

The rocks belong to the Paleoproterozoic rocks of the Komagfjord Tectonic Window (occasionally called "Repparfjord Window"). The mineralization is predominantly found in the impure dolomite rocks.

The Cu mineralization was discovered in the early 1900s, and further investigation was carried out in the 1960s by mining companies and later by the Geological Survey, as relatively high Au values were found in the mineralized zone. To date, surveys are being conducted throughout the wider area as a result of the discovery of the Nussir deposit.
