The Hongyuntan iron deposit hosts estimated ore reserves of 670.4 × 104 t, boasting a substantial average grade of 44 wt.%. Within this deposit, there are delineated two distinct ore sections: the eastern section housing orebodies III and V, and the western section harboring orebody II. The dominant strata exposed in the Hongyuntan district are identified as the Lower Carboniferous Yamansu Formation, which is primarily composed of mafic-intermediate pyroclastic rocks, acid volcanic lava, and clastic sedimentary rocks.
