Name(s) in local language(s):
Kupplerbrunn, Gebiet Ladinger Spitze - Speikkogel, Saualpe, Kärnten, Österreich
Granoblastic medium to coarse-grained eclogites are foliated and often banded on a dm scale. Veins of various kinds are widespread in the eclogites
and were formed during different stages of the metamorphic evolution. The earliest veins are oriented subparallel to the foliation. They are filled with quartz and varying amounts of kyanite, omphacite and zoisite, indicating the presence of a vein fluid during HP metamorphism. Late coarse-grained pegmatoid veins are oriented at high angles to the foliation.
Located on the ridge between the Speikkogel and Ladinger Spitze mountains.
This is the type locality of the rock "eclogite".

Alphabetical List Tree DiagramDetailed Mineral List:
| ⓘ Almandine Formula: Fe2+3Al2(SiO4)3 Description: Garnet is a major component in the eclogites, and is most commonly a pyrope-rich almandine.
Inclusions in garnet are listed as associate minerals. |
| ⓘ 'Amphibole Supergroup' Formula: AB2C5((Si,Al,Ti)8O22)(OH,F,Cl,O)2 Description: Calcic amphibole is a minor phase in most of the samples studied, where it occurs in a number
of textural and compositional varieties, such as (1) inclusions in garnet and zircon, (2) a phase
apparently in equilibrium with omphacite and garnet, (3) texturally late bleb-textured poikiloblastic
grains, (4) strongly coloured grains at garnet/omphacite contacts and (5) vermicular intergrowths
in symplectite replacing omphacite. |
ⓘ 'Apatite' Formula: Ca5(PO4)3(Cl/F/OH) Description: Rarre inclusion in garnets
ⓘ Clinozoisite Formula: (CaCa)(AlAlAl)O[Si2O7][SiO4](OH) Description: Accessory mineral in eclogite
ⓘ Dolomite Formula: CaMg(CO3)2 Description: Accessory mineral in eclogite.
ⓘ 'Garnet Group' Formula: X3Z2(SiO4)3 Description: Garnet is a major component in the eclogites. The garnets are mostly pyrope-rich almandine. Miller et al. (2005) reports a pyrope content up to 57 mol%, making some of the garnets pyrope.
ⓘ Goethite Formula: Fe3+O(OH)
ⓘ Kyanite Formula: Al2(SiO4)O Description: Kyanite occurs as a rock forming mineral in kyanite-eclogites, which forms interlayered bands on the dm scale with kyanite-free eclogites. Kyanite also occurs in HP veins consisting of quartz, kyanite, omphacite and zoisite.
ⓘ Muscovite Formula: KAl2(AlSi3O10)(OH)2
ⓘ Muscovite var. Phengite Formula: KAl1.5(Mg,Fe)0.5(Al0.5Si3.5O10)(OH)2 Description: Accessory mineral in the eclogites.
ⓘ Omphacite Formula: (NaaCabFe2+cMgd)(AleFe3+fFe2+gMgh)Si2O6
ⓘ Pargasite Formula: NaCa2(Mg4Al)(Si6Al2)O22(OH)2
ⓘ Pargasite var. Carinthine Formula: {Na}{Ca2}{Mg4Al}(Al2Si6O22)(OH)2
ⓘ 'Plagioclase' Formula: (Na,Ca)[(Si,Al)AlSi2]O8
ⓘ Pyrite Formula: FeS2
ⓘ Pyrope Formula: Mg3Al2(SiO4)3
ⓘ Quartz Formula: SiO2
ⓘ Rutile Formula: TiO2
ⓘ Zircon Formula: Zr(SiO4) References:
