The Mupane Mining Licence covers an area of some 1,166 hectares and is located on two adjoining farms (Farm 75 NQ and Farm 18/77 NQ).

The deposit was previously known as Penhalonga.

The Mupane gold deposits, which are the largest gold producer (over 640,606 oz [18,161 kg] of Au produced at an average of 2.19 g/t) in the Tati greenstone belt and in Botswana as a whole, are hosted by intercalations of mafic metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Penhalonga Formation.
