The immediate vicinity of the creek consists of zeolites filling amygdules and veins in North Mountain basalt. Further from the creek there are outcrops of the fossiliferous McCoy Brook formation (earlier called Scots Bay formation). The McCoy Brook Formation overlays the basalt and consists of mud limestone and wackestone. These rocks also contain small amounts of zeolites as well as other minerals. Large round red-brown masses of jasper are considered to be silicified tufa-coated logs. They are sometimes hollow, with the cavity lined with a druse of amethyst or rarely smoky quartz.

A single lime cove to the west of the creek is Woodworth Cove (originally called Ira Woodworth Cove). To the east, the lime coves are, in order, Lime Cove, West Broad Cove, Central Broad Cove, East Broad Cove and Davidson Cove.
