Machacamarca was the first locality in the world for augelite crystals (type locality augelite was not well-crystallized).
Note: most of the bournonite specimens pictured here, especially if mined in the 1990s and 2000s, are actually from the Víboras mine rather than the Machacamarca proper.
Note: Recent magnetite specimens being marketed from Bolivia, allegedly from this district, are wrongly labelled. The true locality is the San Calixto prospect on Mt. Huanaquino, roughly 20 km N of Potosí city.
Note: Specimens from other mines in the Machacamarca district are often labelled simply "Machacamarca".
